Duties and Responsibilities:

5.1    A psychiatric nurse supports and assists the Head Nurse in promoting a good working atmosphere and in making the most effective and efficient use of staff supplies and services.

5.2    A psychiatric nurse assumes responsibility for quality of care delivered to patients.

5.3    A psychiatric nurse collaborates with other health care team members in planning and providing safe and comprehensive care.

5.4    A psychiatric nurse performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to Armed Forces Center for Psychiatric Care policy.

5.5    A psychiatric nurse functions quickly and effectively in an emergency situation.

5.6    A psychiatric nurse assesses patient’s needs and condition, observed physical and emotional symptoms and changes, evaluates patient’s treatment and care, documents and reports pertinent information to appropriate nursing or medical personnel.

5.7    A psychiatric nurse assists the doctor and carries out prescribed treatment as per Armed Forces Center for Psychiatric Care policy.

 

5.8    Perform nursing duties such as administering medications, measuring vital signs, collecting specimens, or drawing blood samples.

5.9    Encourage patient participation in social, educational, or recreational activities.

5.10 Accompany patient to and from ward for therapeutic treatments or religious or recreational activities.

5.11  Aid patient in becoming accustomed to inpatient routine.

5.12 A psychiatric nurse maintains a safe and clean environment for the patient.

5.13 A psychiatric nurse respects the dignity of patients and maintains confidentiality.

5.14 A psychiatric nurse acts as a mentor and assists with orientation of new staff.

5.15  A psychiatric nurse recognizes and follows infection control practices.

5.16  A psychiatric nurse takes personal responsibility for own professional development and keeps up-to-date with professional change and development, including English Language skills.

5.17  A psychiatric nurse maintains a professional appearance and adheres to dress code policy.

5.18  A psychiatric nurse participates in environmental safety awareness – CPR, Disaster, Fire and Infection Control.

5.19  A psychiatric nurse complies with hospital-wide and unit-specific policies and procedures.

5.20  A psychiatric nurse demonstrates knowledge of the center quality programme and participates in Quality activities.
