1. To perform consultation and medical treatment of animals according to CVC’s standards
2. To make decisions on and undertake a wide range of surgical operations and procedures. This requires competence and experience across veterinary disciplines, including soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery, cardiology, opthalmology, diagnostic imaging, clinical pathology and shelter medicine.
3. To undertake, on a roster basis, emergency and out of hours qualified veterinary cover
4. To promote animal welfare through client education and preventative medicine in accordance with CVC policy especially during consultation sessions.
5. Maintain clinical notes and keep clients updated regarding the pets treatment and any laboratory results
6. Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality and
7. personal appearance
8. To implement CVC euthanasia policy with respect to stray and wild animals.
9. To undertake any other duties as may be directed from time to time by the Hospital Director, or Senior Clinician.
10. Examine animals pre-operatively to determine their ability to withstand surgery
11. Perform surgical sterilizations
12. Examine animals post-operatively to ensure appropriate healing
13. Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow up care
14. Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by Veterinary Technicians
15. Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery
16. Access individual patient issues, and provide appropriate solutions
17. Creatively problem solve on a daily basis
18. Make reasonable and sensible medical decisions
19. Follow and support all organizational and medical protocols
20. Communicate effectively with Medical Director, to keep management apprised of all out of the ordinary situations
21. Communicate any issues concerning staff or patients with Medical Director/ Management
22. Communicate any issues concerning training programs and/or participants to Medical Director/ Management
23. Provide input and communicate any issues regarding the clinic’s disease control protocols, surgical protocols, or other medical issues at regular Veterinarian meetings or with the Medical Director as appropriate
24. Behave in a manner that upholds both personal and professional standards, as an ambassador of the CVC, at all times
25. Train any designated persons in all aspects of patient care and efficient/safe clinic practices, maintaining a professional and friendly manner at all times
