Job Summary

To provide comprehensive, specialized diagnostic testing, interpretation, reporting and treatments in the field of Neurophysiology, in order to achieve the very best quality of patient care, for all service users. They will work independently, within clearly defined protocols and evidence-based practices as a multi-disciplinary team member. They will support clinical decision making by providing routine, non-routine and specialized investigations, required to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of suspected or known Neurological Conditions. 

They will provide high quality, Neurology and Neurophysiology services across the following key service areas: 

• Neurology Inpatients and Outpatients 

• Pulmonology & Sleep Services 

• Neonatal care

Job Responsibilities 1

Provides a highly complex, clinical neurodiagnostic service to patients of all ages from a range of specialities suffering from a wide variety of medical disorders including those, which may be neurological and/or psychiatric in nature. 

Provides diagnostic support to adults and children including but not limited to: 

Performs and provides technical reports on Electroencephalographic (EEG) investigations employing current standard techniques without supervision and using specialist techniques, i.e., Sleep deprived EEG’s; EEG’s performed with sedation, multi-sleep latency testing and ambulatory EEG’s.  

Performs emergency EEG’s at various locations. 

Performs Nerve Conduction studies for suspected peripheral nerve involvement. 

Assists with EMG (Electromyographic) examinations and complex Nerve conduction studies. 

Performs multi-modality evoked potentials, i.e., Visual evoked potentials, auditory evoked potentials, upper and lower limb somato-sensory evoked potentials, taking appropriate action where necessary. 

Performs Electro-retinography (ERG’s). 

Provides analysis, assessment, and interpretation of a broad spectrum of adult diagnostic and some paediatric test results. 

Provides goal orientated, evidence based and clinically reasoned treatment plans/recommendations alone and in conjunction with an integrated team of physicians, nurses, and other Allied Health Professionals (as applicable) in relation to clinical scope of practice. 

Job Responsibilities 2

Responsible for audit and quality of the area of clinical neurophysiology delivery. 

Participates in diagnosis related clinics and takes an active role in patient management as required. 

Takes an active role within the development of the Neurophysiology service, participating in In-Service Training, facilitating the training and development of all staff, by sharing knowledge and skills where appropriate. 

Manages own time and caseload with an awareness of limitation of the Neurophysiology service and a knowledge of specialist facilities and appropriate referral. 

Adheres to all departmental and facility wide policies, procedures, risk assessments and processes in the interests of maintaining a safe and effective work environment and promoting the highest quality patient care experience. 

Practises clear, concise, and timely documentation of clinical records including (but not limited to) initial assessment, re-evaluation, treatment sessions, discharge planning, referral letters, insurance requests and reports using a variety of digital applications and IT systems. 

Takes responsibility for security, care, and day to day maintenance of equipment and working environment including carrying out daily calibration of all equipment. 

Co-ordinates the reporting of issues and facilitation of repair in collaboration with senior staff.  

Maintains appropriate infection control practices and training, to maintain the safety of patients and colleagues. 

Undertakes clinical and non-clinical audit tasks, as assigned, aimed at informing the facility leadership on performance in critical areas as deemed necessary. 

Maintains and develops own knowledge and skills through further learning activities related to the role of Neurophysiology within the organisation.  

Functions at all times in accordance with the national laws and regulations, legislative, regulatory and policy guidelines relevant to the scope of Neurophysiology practice in the State of Qatar.
