Head of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) – Renewables Projects

Job Purpose

To lead, organize, and support all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) functions by designing, implementing, and optimizing systems that ensure safety, compliance, and operational efficiency in renewable projects.

Your Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide direction and functional leadership for EHS initiatives in renewable energy projects.
  • Drive the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS management systems.
  • Ensure business efficiency and continuity through optimized EHS practices.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee health, hygiene, safety, and quality management systems for renewable energy construction projects.
  • Manage environmental programs aligned with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of EHS policies and procedures.

Traffic & Subcontractor Management

  • Develop and implement strategies to manage traffic for up to 1,000 vehicles per day transporting materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Oversee subcontractor compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Utilize advanced software solutions for efficient traffic and resource management.

Team Leadership

  • Oversee an extensive workforce, including 8,000 workers, 200 HSE engineers, and 10 HSE managers.
  • Ensure comprehensive management of SHE risk, occupational hygiene, and incident investigations.
  • Mentor and motivate teams to foster a culture of safety excellence.

Reporting & Engagement

  • Accompany the Project Director in review meetings and communicate EHS updates to stakeholders.
  • Attend weekly and periodic project review meetings to discuss safety and environmental performance.
  • Submit detailed monthly and periodic reports on health, hygiene, safety, and quality metrics.

What We’re Looking For

Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Safety
  • Preferred: Graduate degree in H&S with a strong engineering background.

Experience

  • 15+ years in EHS management for construction projects.
  • 5+ years managing large-scale EPC renewable projects (solar/wind).
  • Proven experience managing 4,000+ workers and 80+ HSE engineers.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Expertise in SHE Risk Management, Occupational Hygiene, and Incident Investigation.
  • In-depth knowledge of traffic management and subcontractor compliance.
  • Proficiency in ISO 45001 and behavior-based safety practices.
  • Familiarity with software tools for traffic and resource management.
  • Strong budgeting, contract management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
