Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Supports Nursing Administration’s overall operations of nursing services, specifically meeting targets/deliverables under their authority and as per delegation or assignment.
  • 2. Collaborates with Nursing Administration in all strategic and operational planning and execution in support of the Nursing Administration’s annual strategic goals and operational plans.
  • 3. Prioritizes planned and unplanned events, and proactively addresses actual and potential problems (Risk Management).
  • 1. Acts as a resource and expert in identifying and/or solving administrative and operational problems.
  • 2. Maintains operational efficiency and patient safety through development and implementation continuous safe staffing, based on patient acuity, patient census, staff competency and staff availability.
  • 3. Assesses ongoing and developing patient care requirements each unit, through proactive rounding in all the clinical areas of the facility.
  • 4. Ensures all staff are appropriately assigned to patient care/clinical areas as per job title and competencies.
  • 5. Leads and directs nurses in the provision of safe patient and family focused quality nursing care, adhering to best practice, evidence-based practice, accreditation standards and strategic goals of the hospital and Nursing Department.
  • 6. Supports, ensures compliance and acts as a resource regarding hospital and nursing policies, procedures and guidelines in fulfillment of providing safe patient care, in alignment with accreditation requirements.
  • 7. Assists with the development and review of policies relating to the provision of nursing care or specialty services, across the continuum of care.
  • 8. Reports timely and escalates up the chain of command any significant incidents or problems, including patient/family/staff concerns, as well as incivility issues, to the Director of Nursing and relevant Nurse Leaders.
  • 9. Timely contact with applicable representatives of departments, and escalation up the chain of command, regarding assistance with incidents or concerns, as required.
  • 10. Utilizes and embodies the Magnet Principles: transformational leadership at all levels, excellence in nursing practice, supportive of nursing autonomy, structural empowerment (including shared governance unit-based councils, nursing research and innovation).
  • 11. Leads and models patient experience initiatives across the continuum of care while working inter-professionally within the facility.
  • 12. Per scope of expertise and assignment, is an active participant in hospital-wide committees and positively represents the organization and the profession of nursing both internally and externally
  • 13. Leads others in ways to improve quality, efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness of management of organization.
  • 14. Empowers and supports the development of staff at all levels to maintain a high-performing workforce and robust succession planning.
