Overview of the role

 

To manage all design functions and work in partnership with other disciplines: operations, procurement, planning and commercial. Ensure full coordination of all design information and obtain all approvals in alignment with programme dates and operational needs. Identify Value Engineering opportunities and monitor design costs highlighting activities associated with commercial risk. Work with operations to eliminate HSE risk from construction activities where possible. Assist Bid and Procurement Teams as required.

 

What you will do

 

Main Role

  • Implement the Design Management Plan (DMP). Plan, coordinate and review the release and approval of design deliverables in accordance with the Programme, taking any necessary risk analysis and corrective action to meet and where possible, exceed the expectation of the client.
  • Through progress meetings with individual and where necessary, multiple trades, ensure that all sub-contractors provide fully coordinated design information.
  • Ensure compliance with the contract drawings and specifications, together with the Employer’s requirements.
  • In conjunction with the Commercial and Planning Teams, identify variations and programme delays, manage, and assist in the preparation of issuing claims and EOT requests
  • Change Management: identify missing contract information and managing the IRS, resolve design issues and record design change.
  • BIM Model – ensure all design information is current and coordinate with all trades having model deliverables for timely delivery of updated models.
  • Provide support to, and mentor, junior staff as required.

Design

  • Be accountable for all areas of design responsibility / deliverables and manage associated risks.
  • Responsible for leading the design team (Architects, Structural Engineers, MEP Engineers, Coordinators and Sub-Contractors) supervising the team and providing overall direction, technical support and control the Design programme with direct responsibility for design review, coordination, monitoring submission schedules
  • Plan design activities in accordance with the approved Baseline Programme.
  • Engage with Client, PMC and Consultant’s Representative on technical issues to establish a good working relationship.
  • Ensure release and approval of all Shop Drawings, Material Approval Requests, Calculations, etc, in accordance with programme demands.
  • Manage the activities of interfacing subcontractors / sub-consultants to ensure full coordination and meet deadlines.
  • Use company standard document formats as per the IMS Library.
  • Maintain all design document records in accordance with company IMS requirements and third-party audit procedures.
  • Ensure correct distribution of all design information in a timely manner.
  • Prepare correspondence to Client and Subcontractors as required to protect the interest of the company.
  • Maintain correct instruction trackers recording all design change and delay events at the time of occurrence.
  • Provide technical assistance to all company departments, as necessary.
  • Ensure current design information is readily available and accessible to all project delivery staff and subcontractors.
  • Prepare all necessary handover design documentation in a timely manner and in full accordance with project requirements.
  • Reviewing and approval of sample boards and mock-up units prior to the submission of the same to the client/consultant.
  • Be aware of relevant International Standards, Statutory Authority regulations, safety, quality and environmental procedures, instructions and controls so that the safety, quality and environmental compliance can be guaranteed within AFEC.
  • Continuous Improvement using latest good practice design guidelines.
  • Identify and eliminate construction and legacy HSE design risks.

 

Other Tasks

  • Any other reasonable request of work/ task as allocated by the Line Manager.
