JOB PURPOSE

To implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritizing effectively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1.  Implement country specific communication strategies and work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, and support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with WFP communications strategies. 

2.  Develop and maintain contact information, materials and network with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, web etc.) within and outside Iraq to increase coverage of food security issues in the media (print, broadcast and digital). Specific activities may include: 

  • Draft and edit articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials. 
  • Collaborate with the media by organizing project site visits, facilitate photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate. 
  • Oversee Digital Communications/social media: 
  • Create content for and maintain WFP Iraq’s country website and social media sites (Twitter) such as daily monitoring, posting and content development and sharing content for Facebook and Instagram for the regional and global WFP channels. 

3.  WFP Brand and Communications: 

Ensure timely and quality production of advocacy and branding materials such as periodicals, annual and donor reports, supplements, calendars, briefing notes, Human Interest Stories, picture stories, videos, etc. 

4.  The Communications Officer will develop and archive communication materials, including digital, such as publications, press releases and media/news clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc. 

5.  Events/campaigns: Assist in organizing and generating public support for special events and campaigns to promote WFP Iraq goals. Support organization of workshops, seminars, campaigns, and events. 

6.  Monitoring and evaluation Monitor and evaluate impact of communication social media accounts, materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences. 

7.  Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities. 

8.  Collate outreach data contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports, Support communications activities that enable informed decision making and ensures consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders. 

9. Support on translation/interpretation, government liaison, Talking Points and other support for Senior Management may also be required on an ad-hoc basis. 

10. Support capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact. Support the preparation of Annual Corporate Report (ACR) for the Annual Reporting Exercise in collaboration with the country office programme, monitoring & evaluation, logistics and resource management functions by coordinating to ensure coherence and quality of performance information. 

11. Support staff in assigned area to ensure that standard Operational Information Management & Performance Reporting procedures and templates are followed to drive the quality, consistency and standardization of information management and performance reporting across WFP. 

12. Support the initiatives for developing improved, streamlined, and harmonized OIM & PR including drafting of OIM & PR related normative guidance, as required. 

13. Perform other tasks as required.
