Basic Function

                     A basic function of an HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) ISO internal auditor involves conducting audits to assess the effectiveness of an organization’s HSE management system in accordance with ISO standards. This includes reviewing policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance, identifying areas for improvement, and providing recommendations for corrective actions to enhance HSE performance.

1.     Documentation Review: Review documentation related to health, safety, and environmental management systems to ensure they meet ISO standards.

2.     GAP Analysis: – Prepare the gap analysis for the current document system. 

3.     Risk Assessment: Evaluate occupational health and safety risks as well as environmental impacts within the organization, and suggest measures to mitigate them.

4.     Training: Provide training and guidance to employees on ISO standards, procedures, and best practices related to health, safety, and environmental management.

5.     Conducting Audits: Perform internal audits to assess compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, identifying non-conformities and areas for improvement.

6.     Prepare the report: The auditor must prepare the internal audit report and share it with MRM.

7.     Internal NCRs: The auditor must do the follow-up for the internal NCRs and support from the safety team to close the NCRs with proper corrective actions.

8.     ISO External audit: Assist theHSE Manager/Engineer in scheduling the ISO external audit.

9.     HSE Documents: – Produce all the required documents to the ISO external auditor.

10. Collect the report: – Coordinate with the ISO external team and collect the report from them in order to close the NCRs if any.

11. Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis for non-conformities identified during audits to determine underlying issues and prevent recurrence.

12.  Communication: Communicate audit findings and recommendations to management for fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.

13. Work Instruction: Support the HSE Manager/engineer to prepare safe work Instructions for all activities.

14. Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of audits, findings, corrective actions, and other relevant documentation in accordance with ISO standards and organizational requirements. Provide the document numbers for all the documents and if any requirements come for changing the documents, must be done according to the ISO procedure only.

15. Continuous Improvement: Recommend improvements to existing processes and procedures to enhance the effectiveness of the management systems.

16. Compliance Monitoring: Monitor the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to address non-conformities identified during audits, ensuring compliance with ISO standards.

17. Support Certification: Assist in the preparation for external audits by certification bodies, providing necessary documentation and support to achieve ISO certification

18. Stay Updated: Keep abreast of changes in ISO standards, regulations, and industry best practices related to occupational health, safety, and environmental management.

19. Promote Awareness: Promote awareness of health, safety, and environmental responsibilities among employees, encouraging participation and commitment to the management systems.

20. Emergency Preparedness: Evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response procedures and plans, ensuring they are aligned with ISO requirements and adequately address potential risks.

21. Supplier Assessment: Assess the health, safety, and environmental practices of suppliers and contractors to ensure they meet applicable standards and requirements.

22. Management Review: Participate in management review meetings to present audit findings, discuss performance against objectives, and recommend actions for improvement

23. Legal Compliance: Monitor changes in health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant with applicable legal requirements.
